In New Mexico

We started the day in Oklahoma.  The late start getting out of Tahlequah meant we wouldn't make it all the way to Palo Duro in time to set up camp.  So camp was last night at a small park called Red Rock Canyon.  It was stunning and we met some cool people, Tom and Demelza, who shared some stories and some food with us (didn't expect to eat steak but I'll take it!).  They were moving to North Carolina from Seattle.  Not bad for a first night on the road, really, and already meeting people with their own travel bug.  We hiked around Red Rock quite a bit this morning and this afternoon we did a 3 mile hike at Palo Duro.  They were on a fire ban though so we did not camp.  I'm utilizing the Wi-Fi at a Days Inn in Clayton, New Mexico.  We'll be entering CO tomorrow morning after seeing a volcano - yes there is a volcano in New Mexico.  I'll let you know if it's worth a visit.  Here are the pictures, all from today.  It was very full!

First camp.  Had great shade and a cool spot.  These are all Red Rock Canyon.

Meditating.  Or sitting.  Sitting I think.

Tom and Demelza's dog, Lucy.  Husky/Shephard/Pit/Lab...

 Tom and Demelza

The crossing back into Texas on the way to Amarillo.

These are all Palo Duro.  It was pretty odd, the whole landscape is completely flat and this giant hole just pops out of nowhere.

I had to borrow Dani's hat.  Anybody seen my hat?  It's black and it says 'Rogue' on it.

I'm there, the tiny speck at the top of that mount.  So, might have been a cliff behind it.  It might have been gusty and tried to blow me off.  But maybe not...

Plants.  Neat.

Epic sunset as we crossed into New Mexico.  Only thing we'd seen worth taking a picture of since Amarillo.  I'm not sure if I enjoyed sunrise at the Red Rocks or the sunset at NM more.  Both stunning.
